The Skadoodley Chronicles

Skadoodley was having a bad day.  It rained, and rained, and rained.  The squirrels were taunting him as usual, and he was starting to think that maybe his day would never come.  Maybe he wasn't good enough to get the squirrels.  Maybe his daddy wouldn't love him anymore....

Cuzin Andy was visiting the Wilson household for the weekend while daddy was away.  Skadoodley couldn't help but think that maybe if he had caught that squirrel yesterday morning, he would be on that trip with his daddy right now.  Cuzin Andy was a good buddy, and noticed Skadoodley needed a pick-me-up, so he convinced him to go to the park.

Cuzin Andy knew something that Skadoodley didn't - that the park was full of fat-ass obnoxious squirrels, and the only thing that lay between Skadoodley and a good day was a dead squirrel.

They got to the park and started playing log.  Skadoodley got into the game as best he could, still doubting his own self-worth - maybe he wasn't even good enough to play log!  Then Cuzin Andy tossed the log near a cluster of trees.  As Skadoodley approached log he noticed the tauntingly familiar twitch of a white fuzzy tail.  He started to get feverish, he stopped.  From about 20 yards he decided it was time to dog up and do what he was born to do.  He stalked, he froze, he waited.  At 10 yards he thought this might be the day.  The fuzzy tail twitched, he moved, the tail stopped, he stopped.  Then he saw his moment - and POW...

The crunch was the most satisfying part.  He didn't chomp down like he chomped on log.  He savored the slow delicate crackle of bone, careful not to break the skin.  This was his trophy, and he wanted it to be perfect.

Cuzin Andy helped Skadoodley to stuff and mount the squirrel at home.  They used two dimes for the eyes and pulled his little pink toungue out of his mouth to one side.  Skadoodley didn't want a cute stuffed squirrel - he wanted to drive fear into the quickly beating little hearts of all those pompous ass squirrels in his yard.  They set Skadoodley's prize on top of the cherry tree stump, a testament to Skadoodley's dogliness and a clear message to all the squirrels that had been taunting him for months - that their time was up.

Daddy came home the next day and was so proud of Skadoodley.  It was a good day!
